Quranic Dua with explanation
Taawwuz
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan, the accursed one.
Hadith: Anas (ra) reported that the prophet ﷺ said- Whoever seeks refuge with Allah ten times a day, Allah appoints an angel with him who drives Satan away from him.-Tafsir kabeer
Hadith: Sulaiman b. Surad reported that two persons abused each other in the presence of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ and one of them fell into a rage and his face became red. Allah’s Apostle ﷺ saw him and said:
I know of a wording; if he were to utter that, he would get out (of the fit of anger)
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed.
Thereupon, a person went to him who had heard that from Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) and said to him: Do you know what Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said? He (the Holy Prophet) said: I know of a wording; if he were to say that, (the fit) would be no more (and that is):
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed.
And the person said to him: Do you find me mad?- Sahih Muslim 2610
Tasmiyah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Hadith: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘When any of you wants to eat, he should mention the Name of Allah (Bismillah) in the begining, If he forgets to do it in the beginning, he should say
بِسمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ
Bismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu
I begin with the Name of Allah at the beginning and at the end.-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud
Hadith: Ali ibn Abi Talib reported that The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ said, “A screen will be placed between the eyes of the Jinn and the nakedness of the children of Adam if one of them says as he enters the washroom: In the name of Allah (Bismillah).- Sunan al-Tirmidhii 606
Sura Al Fatiha
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
All praise is for Allah- Lord of all worlds.
The Beneficent, the Merciful.
Master of the Day of Judgment.
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
Guide us to the straight path.the Path of those You have blessed- not those You are displeased with, or those who are astray.
Hadith: Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, Allah Almighty said: I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.
When the servant says, ‘All praise is due to Allah the Lord of the worlds,’ Allah says: My servant has praised Me.
When he says, ‘The Gracious, the Merciful,’ Allah says: My servant has exalted Me.
When he says, ‘The Master of the Day of Judgment,’ Allah says: My servant has glorified Me, and My servant has submitted to Me.
When he says, You alone we worship, You alone we ask for help,’ Allah says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will have what he has asked for.
When he says, Guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not those who earned wrath and went astray,’ Allah says: This is for My servant, and My servant will have what he has asked for.- Ṣaḥiiḥ Muslim 395
Hadith: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
إِذَا أَمَّنَ الْإِمَامُ فَأَمِّنُوا، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ وَافَقَ تَأْمِينُهُ تَأْمِينَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ
When the Imam says, ‘Amin’, then say, ‘Amin’, because whoever says, Amin’ with the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven.- Sahih muslim
Sura Al baqarah
Verse 127
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing,1 the Knowing.- sura ala baqarah 127
Asar: Wuhayb bin Al-Ward recited,
وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا
And (remember) when Ibrahim and (his son) Isma’il were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah), (saying), Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us and cried and said, O Khalil of Ar-Rahman! You raise the foundations of the House of Ar-Rahman (Allah), yet you are afraid that He will not accept it from you?
This is the behavior of the sincere believers, whom Allah described in His statement,
وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوا
And those who give that which they give.-23:60 meaning, they give away voluntary charity, and perform the acts of worship yet,
وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ
With their hearts full of fear.-23: 60
afraid that these good deeds might not be accepted of them.-Ibn Kathir
Verse 128
رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُسْلِمَةً لَكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ
Our Lord, and make us Muslims (in submission) to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites (of worship) and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.- Sura al baqarah 128
Tafsir: Ibn Jarir said, They meant by their supplication, ‘Make us submit to Your command and obedience and not associate anyone with You in obedience or worship.
Verse 201
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us good in this world and in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.-Sura al baqarah 201
Tafsir: The supplication mentioned and praised in the Ayah includes all good aspects of this life and seeks refuge from all types of evil. The good of this life concerns every material request of well-being, spacious dwelling, pleasing mates, sufficient provision, beneficial knowledge, good profession or deeds, comfortable means of transportation and good praise, all of which the scholars of Tafsir have mentioned regarding this subject. All of these are but a part of the good that is sought in this life.- Ibn kathir
Hadith: Anas (ra) narrated that, The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate frequently:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire.- Sahih Bukhari 6389
Hadith: Anas said, “Allah’s Messenger ﷺ visited a Muslim man who had become as weak as a sick small bird. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to him, ‘Were you asking or supplicating to Allah about something?’
He said, ‘Yes. I used to say: O Allah! Whatever punishment you saved for me in the Hereafter, give it to me in this life.’ Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: All praise is due to Allah! You cannot bear it -or stand it-.
You should have said
رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!
The man began reciting this Du’a and he was cured.-Musnad ahmad
Asar: Al-Qasim bin ‘Abdur-Rahman said, Whoever is gifted with a grateful heart, a remembering tongue and a patient body, will have been endowed with a good deed in this life, a good deed in the Hereafter and saved from the torment of the Fire- Ibn kathir
Verse 250
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”-sura al baqara 250
Hadith: Abu Hurairah (ra) reported that The prophet ﷺ said, Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy. Pray to Allah to grant you safety; (but) when you encounter them, show patience.-Sahih Bukhari and Muslim.
رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord! Do not place a burden on us like the one you placed on those before us. Our Lord! Do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our ˹only˺ Guardian. So grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”- sura al baqara 286
Hadith: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If anyone recited two verses from the last of Surah al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.- Sunan Abi Dawud hadith 1397
Sura Al e Imran
Verse 8
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ
Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.-Sura al e Imran 8
Hadith: Shahr bin Haushab reported that, I asked Umm Salamah (ra), O Mother of the Believers! Which supplication did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ make frequently when he was in your house?
She said: He ﷺ supplicated frequently:
يا مقلب القلوب ثبت قلبي على دينك
O Controller of the hearts make my heart steadfast in Your religion.- Tirmidhi
Ibn Jarir recorded that Umme Salamah (ra) said that the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate,
يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ
O You! Who changes the hearts, make my heart firm on Your religion.
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ
Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.-Tirmidhi
Verse 16
رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,- sura al e imran 16
Hadith: Anas (ra) said- We used to be instructed to pray the tahajjud prayer 70 times at dawn asking Allah for forgiveness.-Ibn kathir
Verse 26-27
اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَتَنْزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّنْ تَشَاءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَنْ تَشَاءُ بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
تُولِجُ اللَّيْلَ فِي النَّهَارِ وَتُولِجُ النَّهَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَتُخْرِجُ الْحَيَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَتُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَيِّ وَتَرْزُقُ مَنْ تَشَاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
O Allah! Lord over all authorities! You give authority to whoever You please and remove it from who You please; You honour whoever You please and disgrace who You please—all good is in Your Hands. Surely You ˹alone˺ are Most Capable of everything.
You cause the night to pass into the day and the day into the night. You bring forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living. And You provide for whoever You will without limit.- Sura Al e imran 26-27
Verse 38
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.”- sura al e imran 38
meaning: grant me a chlid who will have offspring.
Verse 53
رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا بِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ
Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness.- sura al e imran 53
Verse 147
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses. Make our feet firm, and give us help against the disbelievers.- sura al e Imran 147
Verse 173
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Allah is enough for us: He is the best protector,- sura al e imran 173
The Prophet ﷺ said- When a difficult task comes before you, say-
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Allah is enough for us: He is the best protector,- Ibn Mardubiyah
Verse 191-194
رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَنْ تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ
رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلْإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ
رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدْتَنَا عَلَى رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ
Our Lord! You have not created all this without purpose- You are far above that!- so protect us from the torment of the Fire.
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire – You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.
Our Lord! Bestow upon us all that You have promised us through Your messengers- do not humiliate us on the Day of Resurrection- You never break Your promise.’
asar: Isa (as) said, son of Adam! O weak man. Fear Allah wherever you are. Stay in the world with humility and poverty. Make the mosque your home. Teach your eyes to cry. Accustom the body to be patient. Make the heart a thinker. And don’t worry about tomorrow’s sustenance.- Ibn kathir
